National Agency for Academic Exchange announced the results of the contest for projects in the framework of bilateral exchange program between the Poland and Ukraine. Among the grants that received funding was our project Nanostructured nickel and palladium‐containing composites based on anodic nanoporous alumina for selective catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds which will be realized together with L.V. dr Magdalena Jarosz attended a "Short course on Electrochemically Active Biofilms" at the Washington State University, Pullman, WA. During the course she learnt the basics of the electrochemistry for biofilm examination, as well as new, advanced electrochemical techniques and the methods of biofilm growth controll. The course will help her to continue her research in the Sonata 13 grant.

During those days we visited dr Lifeng Liu at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) Braga, Portugal. During the visit we discussed the details of our joint research and took part in the workshop Solar Fuel Production Based on Nanostructured Photoelectrodes and Catalysts.
October 11th - 12th, 2018
During those days, our Team was organizing the second edition of the conference that was dedicated for students and PhD students who are working with functional nanostrutured materials (2nd International Workshop on Functional Nanostructured Materials). This years edition was devoted to three main topics:
- Nanostructured biomaterials
- Nanomaterials for energy conversion and storage
- Electrochemistry for nanomaterials and nanomaterials for electrochemistry
The conference held more than 80 scientists from Poland and abroad, including some great specialist from each field that gave an invited lectures.
Moreover, workshops on writing scientific papers and choice of a proper journal (led by the Elsevier representative), and on preparing samples for certain measurements were conducted. Finally, a discussion panel led by dr Krzysztof Fic on writing good research proposal was included in the programm.

Our PhD student, Anna Pawlik was on a monthly scientific internship in professor’s Aldo Boccaccini group at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen (Germany). During her stay, Ania was learning the electrophoretic deposition method.

Doctor Agata Kołodziejczyk was our guest for the seminary of the Department of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry. She gave a lecture entitled Exobiology, space medicine and astrochemistry in the first in Poland analog research station Lunares.

Our colleague, Elżbieta Kurowska-Tabor successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled Nanostructured Ag electrodes as novel amperometric sensors for detection and determination of H2O2.

National Science Center announced the results of the OPUS 13 proposals. Among projects qualified for financing, there was one from our Group:
The project coordinated by Grzegorz Sulka entitled Synthesis and characterization of novel biomaterials based on three-dimensional (3D) multifunctional titanium substrates was qualified to be financed, and it will be realized in our Group between 2018 and 2021.

We have finally finished relocation to the new building of Faculty of Chemistry. The new address is Cracow, Gronostajowa 2 (the Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the JU Revival).
What is more, our very first article with new affiliation has just been published!

From January till July 2017, our PhD student Karolina Syrek, was on a six-month long internship form the ETIUDA 4 programme (financed from the National Science Center). She spent that time in a group of prof. Joaquin Rodriguez-Lopez (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). During her stay in the United States, Karolina was examining nanostructured oxide electrodes by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electrochemical spectroscopy (SECM).

National Science Centre announced the results of the OPUS 12 and PRELUDIUM 12 proposals. Among projects qualified for financing, there were two from our Group:
OPUS 12 - Nanostructured anodic TiO2 and WO3 modified/doped with transition metal oxides as photoanodes for electrocatalytic and sensing applications coordinated by Grzegorz Sulka will be conducted in the years 2017-2020.
PRELUDIUM 12 - Modified anodic tin oxide layers with complex internal architecture as promising photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting coordinated by Karolina Gawlak will be realized in the years 2017-2020.
